You will need to manually associate HTML files with the ICE utility. Follow these steps:
1. Open the Set Associations panel.
2. Double click the .html extension.
3. Select Symantec ICE and click OK.
Note: Only encrypted HTML files open with the Symanatec ICE utility. All other HTML files open in your default browser. If you do not make this association, you can still right-click the encrypted file and select Open with > Symantec ICE to view it.
- If you can't read a protected file by double-clicking on it, right-click it (Windows) or Ctrl+click it (Mac) and open the file with Symantec ICE.
- When prompted for authentication, enter your Symantec Identity account credentials. Your administrator may have pre-configured this account for you. If you do not have one, register for a Symantec Identity account.
- Contact your organization's IT department for assistance with registration and authentication to the Symantec ICE utility.
Important note for Windows 8 and 10 users: If you’re having trouble opening a file with Symantec ICE, you may need to manually associate HTML files in the Set Associations panel. Follow the steps in the Installation Instructions section.
Please review the most common issues below. - I don't know how to open the file. To access an ICE-protected file, you need to 'open' it with VIP Access. This is equivalent to importing the file with another app. External cloud apps vary on how they let you do this. Most use the standard import / export icon, but others may use something different.
- I keep going to the same Get Started page. Tapping an ICE-protected file will take you to the instructions page. Look for the export option on your external app that allows you to open the file with VIP Access.
- I don’t know what sign in credentials to use.
- You may use your corporate credentials if your administrator has set them up for you.
- If not, you can register with Symantec Identity using your corporate email address. Look for the 'Create Account' link to register.
- I’m having trouble signing in.
- You may be using the wrong account to log in. You can use the “Switch User” link to try another account.
- You may not have a Symantec Identity account. You can register using your corporate email address. Look for the “Create Account” link to register.
- You may not be authorized to view the file. Reach out to the sender of the file to request access.
- I tried to open a file through a mobile browser, but I don’t see VIP Access in my import options. You need to access the file through a mobile app, not a mobile browser. Try opening it in the app.
- I have VIP Access, but it doesn't appear as an option when I try to import my file. You need to have version 4.2 or later of VIP Access. Please update the app and try again.

Two-factor authentication (2FA), often referred to as two-step verification, is a security process in which the user provides two authentication factors to verify they are who they say they are. All users are required to use two-factor authentication to login into the Mount Sinai network over VPN from a remote location.
In order to use Two Factor Authentication, you must first download and install the Symantec VIP Access application to your mobile device and then register your token which will tie your token to your network account.
Key FOBs (hardware tokens) are available for pick up at the Levy Library on the 11th floor Annenberg building for users who would like a hardware-based token instead of a software-based token.
